The Role

Purpose of the position:

1. Reduced Reliance on 3rd Parties:

Our increased dependency on external providers for high-level infrastructure support introduces risks, including longer resolution times, higher costs, and a loss of internal knowledge. Rehiring in-house allows us to retain critical expertise and mitigate vendor lock-in.

2. Improved Reliability and Responsiveness:

A dedicated third-line Engineer will provide faster incident resolution and root-cause analysis, minimising downtime and service disruption. This is particularly important for our globally distributed operations and time-sensitive systems.

3. Knowledge Retention and Internal Capability Building:

An in-house expert contributes to documentation, mentors junior staff, and strengthens our internal IT maturity and resilience.

4. Continuity:

Succession planning.

Key Requirements

Role Specific Requirements:

  • Comfortable operating in 24/7 environments with production-level responsibilities and high uptime expectations.

  • Focusing on Azure, Azure VMs, network and Wi-Fi management.

  • Willingness and ability to contribute to a shared on-call rotation.

  • Provide support and mentor 1st line.

  • "Can Do" attitude.

  • Minimum 2/3 days on-site in Burnley, other days remote.

Work Experience Desirable:

  • Strong Generalist - 3rd line engineer.

  • Strong experience in managing Azure environments (e.g. Entra, Intune, Exchange, Virtual Servers).

  • Strong experience with Microsoft 365 .

  • Strong expertise in Active Directory policies .

  • Good understanding of networking.

  • Skilled in diagnosing and resolving infrastructure issues across cloud, system, and application layers. Experience with Meraki, Barracuda, Cloud Adoption Framework, and PowerShell.

  • Previous experience in a similar role
