The Role

The Nuclear Projects Engineering Lead will provide strong leadership and integration across multidisciplinary engineering teams assigned to specific projects, to ensure successful delivery of nuclear projects. The role requires a deep commitment to nuclear safety culture, with broad technical experience across mechanical, piping, structural and civil engineering, combined with a sound understanding of the principles of process, electrical and control & instrumentation (C&I) disciplines.

The individual will operate with autonomy and responsibility, coordinating technical inputs, supporting configuration management and ensuring that engineering solutions are robust and meet project standards, regulatory requirements and business objectives. The role is a position within Engineering function.


Key Responsibilities

The Nuclear Projects Engineering Lead Lead shall report to the Head of Engineering and shall work closely with other the Engineering disciplines and Business Lines in the UK for:

Technical Leadership & Integration:

  • Lead and coordinate multi-disciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, piping, structural, civil, process. electrical, instrumentation & control, etc.) assigned to specific projects to deliver projects and technical solutions in support of nuclear site operations and maintenance.

  • Act as the focal point of contact for multidisciplinary design coordination and resolution of cross-discipline technical issues, as well as for internal and external stakeholders and subcontractors.

  • Ensure that engineering deliverables align with project scope, safety requirements and contractual obligation.

  • Prepare and attend design reviews.

  • Attend safety workshops and risk assessments contributing to the identification of hazards. and the development of mitigation initiatives.

  • Support the engineering function needs for continuous improvement.

Project Delivery:

  • Support the planning, execution and delivery of engineering projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

  • Support project managers in client and regulator interactions on technical matters

  • Provide technical input to project planning, scheduling and risk management

  • Management and monitoring the modifications requested by the various engineering teams

  • Anticipation and escalation of technical open points

  • Review and coordinate key technical documentation, including specifications, calculations, drawings, safety documentation reports.

  • Ensure effective management of interfaces between different engineering disciplines and project stakeholders.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Uphold and promote the company's commitment to nuclear safety, quality assurance and environmental protection.

  • Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with project requirements and relevant legislation.

  • Drive quality assurance in design, analysis and documentation.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with the client, regulatory authorities and other key stakeholders.

  • Represent the company at technical meetings, design reviews and project progress discussions.

Configuration & Information Management

  • Support configuration management for the entire product life cycle during project execution.

  • Oversee the management of technical information exchanged internally and externally, ensuring traceability, consistency and compliance with project and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure alignment of configuration and change control processes with project objectives and client expectation.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities for innovation, efficiency and process improvement within project delivery and technical practices.

  • Support the development and implementation of best practices, lessons learned and knowledge management initiatives.


Key Requirements

Skills & Experience 

Knowledge / Skills/ Abilities:

  • Engineering Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Structural, or related Engineering discipline.

  • Chartered status within recognisable professional institutes is desirable. (CEng).

  • Experience in nuclear, energy or other highly regulated industries.

  • Knowledge of nuclear power stations design.

  • Knowledge of Engineering processes, procedures and operational requirements

  • Broad, applied experience in mechanical, piping, structural and civil engineering, with proven ability to understand and apply the principles of process, electrical and C&I systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to integrate multidisciplinary inputs into coherent engineering solutions.

  • Configuration management principles and lifecycle information control within engineering projects.

  • In-depth understanding of nuclear safety culture, codes, standards (e.g. ASME III / VIII / B31.3, RCC-M, EN, ISO 19443) and regulatory frameworks (ONR, IAEA).

  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to work autonomously, take responsibility and be accountable for outcomes.

  • Excellent communication skills with ability to engage effectively with clients, regulators and internal stakeholder.

  • Leadership skills.

  • Ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to set, achieve and maintain high standards of safety and quality.

  • Quality requirements for the use of engineering software.

  • Understanding of engineering supply chain management and contract administration in a nuclear context.

Desired knowledge, Skills and Personal Characteristics:

  • Knowledge of nuclear safety systems operation and requirements for safety cases.

  • Knowledge of the general operation of a nuclear power station and the associated safety aspects.

  • Previous experience involving PWRs (pressurised water reactor).

  • Knowledge of nuclear safety systems operation and requirements for safety cases.

  • Previous experience working with 3D design software and/ or engineering calculations software.

  • Excellent presentation skills.

  • Quality requirements for the use of certified engineering software/ tools for the operation of the discipline.

Security Clearance:

  • The role requires the appropriate level of UK security clearance for work at the nuclear site.

Work Environment:

  • The role is primarily based at the nuclear site, with occasional travel to our other locations or client locations as required.
