Our client is an exciting independent oil and gas development and production company, focused on turning opportunities into value by targeting maturing assets and undeveloped oil and gas fields.
They are seeking to appoint a highly experienced Group Project Manager to lead the safe, efficient and cost-effective delivery of capital and operational improvement projects across their portfolio of assets.
The Role
The role of Group Project Manager is a key position within the organisation and demands both technical and managerial expertise. Reporting to the Group Operations Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, efficient and cost-effective delivery of capital and operational improvement projects across the company's portfolio of assets.
The role is critical to ensuring that projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget and in compliance with regulatory and company requirements. The Group Project Manager will lead multidisciplinary project teams, manage contractors and stakeholders, and ensure project objectives are achieved while maintaining the highest standards of HSEQ performance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the safe delivery of capital and operational improvement projects from concept through FEED, detailed design, construction, commissioning and handover, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget and to the required HSEQ and technical standards.
Lead multidisciplinary project teams and external contractors, providing clear direction, setting priorities, ensuring competency and promoting accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Develop and maintain project execution plans, schedules, budgets and forecasts, monitoring progress, managing resources and implementing recovery plans where required.
Manage project risks and opportunities, maintaining project risk registers and ensuring appropriate risk assessments, HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA and other safety studies are completed.
Manage EPC and specialist contractors, including contractor selection, tender evaluations, performance against agreed KPIs and overall delivery.
Ensure compliance with applicable UK regulations, company engineering standards, CDM requirements, Management of Change processes, contractor safety requirements and technical integrity standards.
Coordinate engineering, procurement and construction activities, ensuring project deliverables meet operational requirements and that commissioning, handover and project close-out are effectively completed.
Drive improvements in project delivery, including standardised execution methodologies, project management systems, cost and schedule performance, digital tools and the capture of lessons learned.
Build effective relationships across Operations, Maintenance and Engineering, as well as with regulators, contractors, suppliers, consultants and other external stakeholders.
Provide technical and managerial leadership to project teams, communicate project risks and opportunities to senior management, and support wider strategic, business development and acquisition activities as required
Key Requirements
Skills & Experience
Essential:
A recognised Engineering qualification at degree level or equivalent.
Formal Project Management qualification preferred (APM PMQ, PMP, PRINCE2 or equivalent).
Experience in a similar Project Management role within the Oil & Gas, Energy, Petrochemical or Process Industries.
Proven track record of delivering capital projects from concept through commissioning.
Experience managing EPC and specialist contractors.
Experience managing project budgets, schedules and resources.
IT literacy and familiarity with Microsoft 365 and project management software.
Experience of project scheduling software (Primavera P6, MS Project or equivalent).
Experience of HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA and Risk Assessments.
Familiarity with CDM Regulations and Management of Change processes.
Familiarity with Process Control Systems (DCS, SCADA, F&G).
Understanding of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and process engineering disciplines.
Strong leadership and stakeholder management capability.
Excellent project planning, organisational and communication skills.
Strong commercial awareness.
Ability to analyse and solve complex problems.
Confident decision maker when dealing with technical challenges.
Strong contractor management skills.
Established track record of project delivery.
Desirable:
Chartered Engineer or Chartered Project Professional status.
Experience delivering brownfield oil and gas projects.
Familiarity with compressor, pipeline, gas processing and utilities projects.
Financial literacy and project cost management experience.
Experience working within COMAH or Major Accident Hazard environments.
Previous line management experience.
Experience implementing digital project management systems.
Familiarity with Operations & Maintenance processes and systems.
Knowledge of NSTA, HSE and Environment Agency requirements.
