The Role
The Welding Engineer supports welding operations by developing and qualifying procedures, managing welding lab activities, and providing technical guidance in the field. The role ensures compliance with codes and project specifications while coordinating with operations, engineering, and quality teams. This position drives research and development in pipeline welding, delivers solutions to welding challenges, and supports both mechanised and manual applications onshore and offshore.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, coordinate, and supervise welding procedure development and qualification (mechanized, semi-automatic, manual) in line with customer and code requirements.
Manage day-to-day welding operations, including personnel allocation and scheduling.
Lead welding R&D programs and ensure accurate reporting and documentation.
Prepare welding procedure proposals aligned with applicable codes (API, AWS, ASME, DNV, CSA Z662).
Provide field-based and in-house technical support, including troubleshooting, metallurgy, and code interpretation.
Maintain current knowledge of welding technologies, codes, and industry research.
Ensure confidentiality of proprietary documentation and uphold quality control measures.
Support project execution and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Requirements
Skills & Experience
Job Specific Education Required:
Degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field.
Strong communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
Comfortable supporting shop and field activities
Work Experience Required:
Working knowledge of welding codes (API 1104, ASME IX, AWS, DNV, CSA Z662).
AWS CWE or CWI certification.
Familiarity with mechanized pipeline welding.
Exposure to CTOD, ECA, NDT and/or automated inspection systems.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
Strong knowledge of welding processes, metallurgy, and code/specification interpretation.
Proficiency in technical documentation, report writing, and effective communication.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to collaborate across teams and work independently in shop and field environments.
Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
Requirement to Travel: 15-20%
