Our client is a leading technical engineering specialist in the UK’s onshore wind sector, the organisation has earned a reputation for the highest standards of engineering, robust customer support, and deep technical expertise, supporting a diversified multi-brand fleet of wind turbines across the UK. 

The team specialises in the supply, operation, and maintenance of medium-scale turbines including those from industry leaders like Vestas while also providing expert service for models from WTN, Micon, Bonus, and Nordtank. Its core technical offering includes turnkey re-powering, turbine supply, long-term contracted maintenance, and fast-response reactive services, all structured to maximise turbine performance and client value.


The Role

The Head of Projects will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of all service and maintenance commitments, ensuring the highest standards of customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.  The position is also involved in cost management, and growth in revenue. This senior leadership position is vital to the continued expansion and technical excellence of our client in the UK’s onshore wind sector. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Service Delivery: Oversee the delivery of all contracted and reactive maintenance, re-powering projects, and technical support services, ensuring targets for customer satisfaction, turbine performance, and uptime are consistently met.

  • Customer Liaison: Act as the primary link between customers and internal technical, engineering, and commercial teams. Ensure clear communication, rapid response to customer needs, and uphold the company’s reputation for robust client support.

  • Health, Safety & Compliance: Develop, implement, and maintain Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality Management policies in line with industry standards and WTSR (Wind Turbine Safety Rules). Foster a strong safety culture and ensure compliance across service operations.

  • Strategy & Financial Management: Work collaboratively with the CEO and executive team on operational strategy, business planning, KPI development, and achieving budgeted performance.

  • Engineering & Supply Chain Oversight: Manage engineering budgets, oversee procurement of tools, stock, and equipment, and ensure timely availability of resources for project and service delivery. Develop strategic supplier and OEM relationships.

  • People Leadership: Recruit, train, and develop technically skilled staff. Provide strong leadership and guidance to regional engineering teams, supporting professional growth and technical upskilling initiatives (e.g., WTSR training).

  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and drive efficiencies in operational processes. Champion technology adoption, encourage a “first time fix” culture, and pursue continuous improvement in cost control, service quality, profit margins, and operational resilience.

  • Reporting & Risk Management: Compile and present operational performance reports for Board and investors. Proactively manage project, operational, and compliance risks, including maintenance of ISO accreditation and supporting tendering processes.


Key Requirements

Skills & Experience 

  • Proven experience in operations, engineering, or technical management within the wind industry, renewables, or a comparable industrial technical services sector.

  • Demonstrable leadership of field-based technical teams and delivery of multi-site service operations.

  • Strong track record managing budget and supply chains, with practical experience driving operational efficiencies and high safety standards.

  • Skilled in stakeholder and customer relationship management, with excellent communication and negotiation abilities.

  • Track record of managing and developing skilled technical staff, with experience designing and delivering skills/upskilling programs.

  • Relevant technical/engineering qualifications in electrical, mechanical, or renewable energy disciplines are an advantage. Preference to ex turbine technicians. 

  • Knowledge of UK and Irish onshore wind markets and associated health, safety, and regulatory standards.
