Senior Procurement Specialist – Supply Chain

Simpson Booth's client, a global engineering and manufacturing company situated in Chadderton, seek a Senior Procurement Specialist on a full-time basis.


As a key member of the Supply Chain team you will strive to deliver the business's growth strategy, and the goals in support of the development of world class performance and facilities which includes:

  1. Manages procurement and develops supplier database for the UK Company to facilitate efficient operations. Ensures best service, quality and price on all materials purchased.
  2. Planning and Quality Assurance of sub-contracted activities including legal requirements.
  3. Procurement of facilities, services and all maintenance/engineering requirements
  4. Cost effective management of supplier base and all purchasing activity.


  • Manages / supports all procurement activity for UK site.
  • Achievement of output targets / KPIs.
  • Level of Customer Service.

Description of main tasks:

  1. Implement purchasing strategies to achieve continuous improvement and competitive advantage across all suppliers.
  2. Managing Supplier base – negotiating contracts, monitoring performance, taking remedial action where necessary to achieve productivity and efficiency this includes procurement of warehouse facilities, FLT and other hire or service agreements related to operations e.g. PPE, cleaning, vending machines and other items.
  3. Investigate and recommend new and comparable materials, techniques, etc. That may increase the Companies systems profitability, productivity and effectiveness.
  4. Managing maintenance parts ordering and control of budget maintenance materials period expenses.
  5. Managing legal agreements between Company and sub-contractors to protect Company Brand and Intellectual Rights.
  6. Monitoring of suppliers/subcontractors performance/output (productivity) against agreed standards, taking remedial action to rectify shortfalls. Standards include product quality, service and costs.
  7. Identifying and proposing alternative source of supply, championing initiatives in line with overall business objectives.
  8. Setting up and leading project teams as required to drive continuous improvement and savings.
  9. Managing all intercompany procurement requirements; including Elastomeric raw materials and finished products with all sister plants.
  10. Reporting/analysing intercompany upon all aspects of purchasing as when specified in a timely manner.
  11. Review of purchases/progress, initiating action as appropriate.
  12. Define, track & report key functional metrics in order to continually improve performance.
  13. Actively monitor market trends to identify changes, to support smart procurement; improved decision making & increased business opportunities.

The post holder is required to carry out any reasonable duty commensurate with the grade of the position. It is not exhaustive and other duties may be included as appropriate to the level of the position.

Professional Education

Studying towards or hold a CIPS qualification (Level 4)

Experience and skills

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Confident in decision making, with the ability to influence
  • Able to evidence the ability to deal with complex challenges with positive results.
  • High levels of energy, drive and resilience.
  • Experience of working at Senior Management level in a manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced understanding in operational controlling and finance matters.
  • IT literature - SAP & Microsoft office knowledge.
  • Project management.
  • Interest in market dynamics (Packaging / Raw materials)
