Freelance Technical Writer

Simpson Booth are currently supporting a major Technology Fund in their search for a highly experienced Technical Writer. This is a Freelance Contract position, with a duration of 3 months and potential extensions beyond this initial period.

You will have the flexible opportunity to work from home on cutting edge technical documentation, as well as attend the occasional meeting in the West End of London. iCommerce 3D Client, AI assisted styling, Avatar and SoundAI sub projects among others are just some of the state-of-the-art technical pieces you will gain exposure to. You will be a highly articulate individual with excellent communication skills, eager to optimise your technical writing skills on some of the most cutting-edge projects on the market.

Job Purpose

You will be responsible for composing clear and coherent technical information and concepts on predefined templates after acquiring this from meetings and calls with subject matter and technical concept experts. This will include conducting business product diagrams and illustrations, as well as producing documents describing projects on hand. You will also have accountability for developing website content, as well as succinctly describing high level software product design, research on various topics and extrapolating knowledge value.

Role and responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to the following:

Develop a thorough understanding of the audience and the documentation required by meeting with concept and technical experts.
Working with managers to discuss technical problems
Research and build knowledge about products, services, technology, or concepts to be documented
Determine the clearest and most logical way to present information and instructions for greatest reader comprehension and writing/editing technical information accordingly
Prepare or commission graphics and illustrations to elaborate on or complement technical writing
Meet with subject matter experts in order to ensure that specialised topics are appropriately addressed and discussed
Revise, edit, or update instructions, technical information, and frequently asked questions as necessary
Create, adapt, and follow project schedules and deadlines

Knowledge and Experience required:

Bachelor's Degree in English, Communications, or IT
Extensive proven knowledge of software and computers having worked in a Technical Writer capacity previously
Strong IT / Technology background with robust experience in Business or Software analysis
In additional, a background in technical or IT design would be a plus
Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
Knowledge of both front end and back end equipment and software
Knowledge of cloud-based PE Investment Opportunities Software
Knowledge of cloud-based Technical Project Management Software
Ability to explain highly technical concepts clearly and articulately
Strong planning and organisation skills
Excellent focus and attention to detail
Robust teamworking and multitasking skills
Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
