Our Client is an industry leading Contractor, Sub-Contractor and Partner to high-profile civil, industrial and commercial projects among others across London and nationwide. With over 40 years of experience providing inspection, renovation and maintenance services to tunnelling, pipeline and sewer works, they are growing rapidly and are now urgently looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join their team. This role will be based predominantly in their new Slough office and will also involve travelling around their different sites providing specialist oversight to the various works.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the key focus of this role is on a high-profile project which involves the upgrading and reinforcing of a section of crucial tunnelling beneath railway infrastructure, as well as overseeing their various lining, surveying and civil works. Our Client are open to this individual joining them on a permanent staff basis (paying £40,000 - £43,000) OR on a long-term LTD Company contract basis (paying a day rate of £240 - £270) depending on experience. This role also comes with a company car-derived-van and fuel card and involves a working week of up to 50 hours (7am - 5pm / 8am - 6pm). Candidates who are immediately available with valid site tickets in place, will be highly preferred.


Role and responsibilities will include but may not be limited to the following:

  • Key oversight from planning phase through to project execution and close out of major civil works with a focus on the upgrading and reinforcing of a section of tunnelling beneath railway infrastructure
  • Preparing RAMS for work with risks to health, safety and environment and safe methods of these installations
  • Liaising with Contractors and Subcontractors regularly
  • Maintaining site records for updating the project programmes
  • Promoting cooperation between all contractors and designers
  • Providing team leadership as and when required for Site Supervisors and Site Engineers
  • Overseeing the installation and monitoring works
  • Travelling to different sites to provide onsite support and project management
  • Travelling to and liaising with crucial clients and suppliers
  • Tracking valuation of the project and payments
  • Managing Risk and Issues registers
  • Health and safety review of documents and monitoring of works
  • Oversight of key pricing negotiations and preparing bid applications
  • Ensuring that work is carried out safely in accordance with approved RAMS and all identified control measures are in place


Knowledge and Experience

  • Candidates who meet the criteria and who are immediately available will be highly preferred
  • You will have a proven background working in an Assistant Project Manager capacity in civils or utilities
  • Knowledge and experience in preparing and writing RAMS
  • You will have gained hands on site experience ideally in a civil engineering or utilities project
  • You will have proven project management skills
  • You will be highly IT literate
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Candidates with a civil engineering background will be preferred
  • Ideally experience working on NEC3 contracts – desirable but not essential
