Our Client, an international Oil and Gas Operator, are urgently seeking a highly experienced Competitive Intelligence and Decision Analyst on a LTD Company contract basis. Based in their West London Headquarters, you will work as a subject matter expert in an internal consultancy capacity. You will provide facilitative leadership and expertise to lead Decision, Strategy and Scenario Analysis evaluations and workshops, and develop an internal Competitive Intelligence capability.

This is a 6 months contract position with the potential of extension and will pay between £600 - £750 GBP per day depending on experience. The requirements for Competitive Intelligence and Decision Analysis has grown significantly over the last couple of years, with both capabilities now used routinely across the business. You will be responsible for conducting external and industry analysis to ensure our Client remains a step ahead in an ever-changing environment whilst developing and providing key training, coaching and mentoring, supporting the overall Competitive Intelligence and Decision Analysis of the UK business.

Role and Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to the following:

  • Expert practitioner: This is essentially an expert internal consultancy role to lead decision and strategy analysis workshops and evaluations.
  • External analysis and industry analysis: You will be responsible for providing scans of the external environment to ensure the organisation can remain robust to the changing environment and developing an internal Competitive Intelligence capability
  • Delivery of tailored training courses in Decision Analysis to the organisation: A key aspect of this role will be to provide coaching and mentoring to course participants as they put the learning into practice.
  • Developing strong relationships with a wide remit of internal contacts (members of the wider competitive intelligence and decision analysis community, asset and functional leaders, project leaders, CoVs and decision analysts in other organisations, as well as with external intelligence providers
  • You will be responsible for providing facilitative leadership to lead Decision, Strategy and Scenario Analysis evaluations by helping project teams to frame and structure problems, develop strategic alternatives / options based on information and elicited knowledge, quantify risk and recommend solution / options, which could minimise risk and maximise opportunities.
  • These types of problems are typically initiated by senior managers or project leaders who have difficult decisions as there is no clear path or there is considerable internal conflict.
  • You will lead the delivery of training courses in decision making and provide follow-up coaching and support.
  • You will provide leadership to the Decision Analysis Community of Practice and to coach Decision Analysis Framers on the practical implementation of Decision Analysis into their daily work.
  • You will provide external and industry analysis to ensure the organisation can remain robust to the changing environment. This includes generating briefing documents and internal presentations summarising key insights to allow inform decisions to be made.
  • To lead and develop tools and techniques that can be incorporated into the Strategy and Decision Analysis programme e.g. Scenario Analysis and Competitive Intelligence. This includes piloting new techniques and applications into a wider area of problems and establishing a library of best practice.

Essential Knowledge and Experience required:

  • BSc / MSc degree qualification in an analytical / business subject e.g. economics, business studies e
  • A Practitioner certification from the Society of Decision Professionals would be highly preferred
  • Proven experience in a Business Analyst role preferably in the oil and gas, energy or related industries
  • Extensive and proven facilitation skills
  • Experience working in a Decision Analyst capacity
  • Knowledge and experience of applying competitive intelligence techniques
  • Strong ability to convey complex messages through excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Mentoring, training and coaching experience would be advantageous
  • Ability to help expand the existing Competitive Intelligence and Decision Analysis toolkit and assist in building and sustaining the wider user communities.
