Simpson Booth have been commissioned to support a global oil and gas exploration and production company with the recruitment of a global Well Delivery Manager. This is a very senior role which will be engaged to lead a significant well delivery programme which has already been sanctioned. The post holder will be based in London, and will bring a visible leadership focus for the key regions in which our client operates. The role is also accountable for the global well delivery process and oversight and optimisation of existing wells across both operated and non-operated assets for a diverse upstream wells portfolio.

The 5 year lookahead for our Client is scheduled to involve major, global onshore and offshore drilling campaigns which will include exploration, appraisal, infill and new development wells as well as workovers, and plug and abandonment activities. Furthermore, our client is actively pursuing a growth strategy, acquiring additional licences across their regions of interest.

The Global Well Delivery Manager will have a regular and crucial input to both the planning and operations phases of these campaigns. This involves full oversight and execution of our client's exploration and appraisal campaigns including the efficient sourcing of drilling rigs, contracting equipment and services. The role is also responsible for designing, coordinating and managing projects from planning phase through to completion. They will be responsible for ensuring all wells are delivered to an exceptional HSE performance, quality and capital efficiency standards, as well as overseeing and ensuring that the design of world-class technical and operating integrity systems and government standards are applied to all well projects. They will lead and be accountable for the well integrity and well servicing operations for operated fields in our client's key regions. Role and responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to the following

  • Full accountability for the results of the well delivery and engineering department, as well as the well integrity and well services function of our client's operated gas fields
  • Spearheading a world class well delivery and engineering technical manpower competence and leadership capacity for the function across all regions.
  • Leading and ensuring that world class design, technical and operating integrity systems are designed and internationally accepted by governance standards
  • Supporting the business objectives of asset managers and partners across the business to minimise technical, financial and environmental risk exposure to global drilling activities
  • Shouldering final financial accountability for the approved budget for exploration and appraisal campaigns
  • Driving continuous improvement and substantially reducing well costs in comparison to previous drilling campaigns
  • Collaborating with subsurface departments to design and install FFP and quality wells
  • Collaborating and managing interfaces with group projects, who are accountable for flowline and well hook-up project execution, to work towards having wells on stream within 30 days of completion date
  • Accountability from the construction of the roads and well pads all the way through to the well flowing
  • Maintaining common standards, procedures and practice to guide the execution of well campaigns across all regions
  • Ensuring that all work complies with agreed standards and best practices (HSE, technical and operational) – this applies to well engineering and completion design as well as drilling, workover and well services operations
  • Ensuring that proper internal and external governance processes are applied during the execution of all well related activities during all phases of work
  • Maintaining a core competency of well delivery, well engineering, completion engineering, well integrity and well services skills deployed in regional offices as required, taking into account international evolving work programmes in different regions, international labour market dynamics, alternative project execution models, optimal combinations of long-term staff and short-term consultants and technological challenges in various onshore and offshore operating environments
  • Optimally resourcing well campaign project teams, in collaboration with functional support groups, and selecting and appointing a suitable drilling operations manager to lead each team.
  • Representing the company's interests in external dealing with partners, contractors, consultants and industry forums
  • Maintaining relationships with technical partners, industry peers and other international communities in order to stay abreast of new technology developments and novel approaches; industry trends, opportunities for information sharing and performance benchmarking

Knowledge and Experience Required

  • Extensive proven global experience working for major and/or supermajor operators across international locations in the oil and gas industry
  • Robust track record of working in both well engineering and drilling operations job functions (drilling engineering, completions engineering, drilling supervision and drilling management)
  • Must have experience of managing a fully functional well delivery department for an operator
  • Must have offshore jack up, semi-submersible and remote onshore operating environment experience in onshore and offshore areas.
  • Must have specific experience of managing campaigns in remote locations.
  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering is essential / Master's degree is preferred
  • Exposure to the business and commercial elements of this function within the upstream environment
  • A proven track record of delivering single string well campaigns in remote locations within budget, schedule, SHE and quality targets
  • Demonstrated continuous improvement experience and results
