Commercial Assistant

Simpson Booth are working closely with a major international power generation company who are keen to expand their team with the appointment of a Commercial Assistant to their London HQ. Previous experience in a similar commercial or legal position is required for this role.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure contractual agreements with suppliers and subcontractors to the business are robust and include specific "flow-down" contractual obligations
  • Assist in reviewing of all proposed client contracts, pro-actively identifying matters that need to be negotiated as part of settling any contractual award.
  • Assist in mobilisation of new contracts, ensuring the operations teams fully understand contractual obligations and that client charges are correctly captured to the billing system.
  • Ensuring the business has appropriate signed legal agreements with clients to pay for services prior to service delivery.
  • Ensuring variations (VO's) to existing client contracts and price increases are correctly captured and controlled from a contractual and charging perspective.
  • Set up supplier and subcontractor supply agreements alongside procurement, ensuring contractual agreements (Purchase Orders) are in place prior to placing orders.
  • Assisting the Commercial Director in reviewing and drafting legal documents as required.
  • Develop relationships across the business with particular emphasis on the Bid Team, Operations, Procurement and Group Commercial / Legal.

Experience/competencies required:

  • Good self-organisation, with attention to detail and the ability to organise and prioritise workload
  • An effective communicator used to dealing with internal as well as external customers
  • A clear and proactive communicator with fluency in English both written and oral
  • A quick learner who thrives in a new and challenging situation

Essential experience required:

  • At least 2 year's working experience.
  • Finance/Accounting/Economics/Mathematics Degree (or similar) or equivalent Qualification
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential. Other Microsoft skills (Word, PowerPoint, Access) desirable
  • Numerate with ability to understand financial information. Experience of producing reports and summaries is desirable.


  • Any knowledge of Mandarin Chinese would be advantageous

Job Type: Temp (PAYE)

Project length: 1 year minimum (could potentially move to a permanent hire)

Salary: £12.00 to £14.50 /hour
